We've had some not-great financial news from Rob's job. We knew his pager fee was going away soon (about $900/mth) but thought we had some extra pay coming since he has more business mileage now that he has a home office. It turns out that they're taking away the car allowance ($450+/mth) which also removes the extra money from extra mileage. Yikes!! After much stress and serious budget cutting, we were getting closer to making things worked out but still very nervous about how it would play out in real life. I was still feeling that inner peace of knowing the Lord was watching out for us. If we did our best to find the answers we could think of & have some faith, he would help us find an answer. But it was still stressful. We were particularly hopeful that Rob would get some long-term assignments which would involve us spending 3-6 months somewhere. We would miss being home but could be together and would make a fair bit of extra money. We found out that was very unlikely to being a reality which was a bit crushing.
Two days after that disappointing news, we find out that Rob's group of guys here in DFW are actually going to have some consistent opportunities for a bit of overtime starting very soon. Considering that overtime was supposed to go away, this was awesome news. Also, the fact that we'd buckled down so much made this seem really great, too. If we hadn't had to cut back like that, I'm not sure that this would have seemed so nice. We're actually really happy with some of the cutting back we've done, particularly with how motivating this is to get us to eat at home more. We also just recently found out that there is a chance that we may get to go to Arizona for 3 months at the beginning of next year. I'm not sure how likely that will be to play out but we'll keep our fingers crossed.
Kyrie just got back from spending several days with Terri, her kids and my mom at Camp Sunshine in Maine. It's a special camp for FA families. Kyrie got to go to help Terri with the kids on the plane and to enjoy the experience which she did. It's a very beautiful place with really neat people. She loved it all except for the bit on the last evening when she fell off a big pile of bean bags. She caught her foot and heard her knee pop which it did again when she hit the ground. The doctor who looked at it said she'd most likely dislocated & the un-dislocated (relocated?) her knee cap in the twist & fall. While it's nice that it didn't happen earlier in camp and interfere with her fun, it did kind of stink that it was a long day of traveling with a freshly wonky knee cap. Luckily, she made it home. It was so nice to have her back. While Rob & I definitely LOVED our fun weekend, we're not ready to be empty nesters quite yet.
I'm getting a new experience, too. I've been asked to participate in a public-affairs committee at church to help organize an open house for our new meetinghouse being built just a few miles away. It'll be a great opportunity to invite some friends & neighbors to learn more about what it is we believe. Of course, we hope some will be interested enough to want to learn more but we hope that they'll at least learn that Mormons aren't weird...in a bad way, at least. :-) We hope to move into the building in early December and have the open house in early January. It'll be fun to drive under 6 miles instead of driving 15.
Well, I'm off to sewing another cute chenilled blanket that I'll show off when it's done. :) Hope everyone is happy and well!
